Fords are selling strong. According to figures released today by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), Ford has sold 176,792 cars this year. What’s more the firm sold 18,442 cars last month, meaning that 12.1 per cent of retail car sales wore the Blue Oval badge.

The success is partly down to demand for the Fiesta, which is the best selling car in the UK this year, backed up by the Focus which takes second place in the overall chart.

To back up Ford’s already impressive performance in the showrooms, the firm has already cut prices on its larger cars, but from August, all of the models in its range will benefit from reductions in their RRPs.

Nigel Sharp, managing director Ford of Britain, said: "Ford's clearer pricing policy, started early in 2010, becomes permanent this month. This will confirm to our customers that Ford provides the best value, that they will get high-quality and technically advanced features as well as a competitive price."
