Updating an existing and successful model in the auto world is something that builds a great excitement among the auto gurus and all of a sudden they all start thinking “whatever they do, let’s hope they don’t screw it up.” The same was the case with proclaiming of 2010 Mazda MAZDA3, the original MAZDA3 was an immensely successful model in terms of sales and performance both, it even got critical praise. As the time moved on it grew stronger. Now that 2010 MAZDA3 is here we were expecting the same from it and thankfully, it stood tall in our expectations. The basic platform of the car is mostly unchanged, except for the additional use of a retuned edition of the suspension and high-strength steel, both of these comes together to provide Mazda 3 a better body control, without any significant ride austerity.

What’s New for 2010 Mazda MAZDA3?

The 2010 Mazda MAZDA3 has not received any serious changes from its previous model and has retained its pleasurable and stylish nature, just as its price suggests. If you are shopping for a small reasonably priced hatchback or sedan, then keep the Mazda3 right on top of your priority list, because that’s where it deserves to be.

Body Styling and Features

The 2010 Mazda MAZDA3 comes in two body styles of a hatchback and four-door compact sedan body styles.

The 3i model, which comes only in sedan, comes in three trim levels: Sport, Touring and SV trim levels. The normal equipments here includes 16-inch steel wheels, height-adjustable driver seat, a 60/40 fold-down rear seatback, power mirrors and windows, a four-speaker stereo with a CD player, tilt-and-telescoping steering column, an auxiliary audio jack and steering-wheel controls.

Going for the 3i Sport trim will get you a temperature display, air-conditioning, and the option of an automatic transmission. While getting the 3i Touring gets you 16-inch alloy wheels, power door locks remote keyless entry, Bluetooth phone and audio connection, cruise control, and a six-speaker stereo.

The 3s Sport is available in hatchback and sedan trims and comes with the bigger engine of 3i Touring, and diverse rear and front fascias, it also has 17-inch alloy wheels, dual exhausts, Foglights, more assertively strengthened front seats, rear lip spoiler, leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, upgraded upholstery, electroluminescent gauges and trip computer. The Grand Touring trim of 3s adds automatic bi-xenon headlights along with the corner swivel illumination and auto-leveling, dual-zone automatic climate control, heated side mirrors, leather upholstery, an eight-way power driver seat having driver memory functions and heated front seats.

The optional equipments for the all 3s trims and 3i Touring is the Moonroof & Bose package which adds a sunroof and a 10 speaker surround-sound system along with in-dash six-CD changer. The Tech package available on the 3s comprises keyless entry/ignition, a navigation system having steering wheel controls, satellite radio and a very small budget, high-mounted display screen. The satellite radio is a dealer-installed option in any of the Mazda 3.

Under The Hood

Pumping under the hood is 2010 Mazda 3i is a 2.0-liter inline-4 cylinder engine capable of generating maximum power of 148 hp and engine maximum torque of 135 pound-feet. The power is transmitted through a five-speed manual transmission, though you can get also get five-speed automatic transmission as optional on most of the 3i SV. The estimated fuel economy for this engine is 24 mpg in city and 33 mpg on highway (when mated with automatic transmission, the manual betters it by 1 mpg in city).

Powering the Mazda 3s is a 2.5-liter inline-4 cylinder engine capable of generating maximum power of 167 hp and maximum torque of 168 lb-ft of torque. The standard transmission here is a six-speed manual and a five-speed automatic optional. Both the fuel economy of acceleration of Mazda 3i is somewhat equal to the other small cars we’ve seen in the market.

Safety Equipments

The 2010 Mazda MAZDA3’s safety equipments includes active front head restraints, antilock disc brakes with brake assist, side curtain airbags and front side airbags. The safety equipments in the trims above 3i add traction and stability control. The safety test scores of the car are also pretty respectable.

Verdict

The 2010 Mazda MAZDA3 might have undergone plethora of changes, but it still is sophisticated and entertaining than what its price tag would suggest. If you’re looking for a small affordable sedan or hatchback put the 2010 Mazda MAZDA3 right on top of your list.
