Diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz S-Class

Mercedes-Benz S-Class

It appears that Daimler finally announced plans to bring to the United States market the diesel-powered Mercedes-Benz S-Class flagship sedan. The new car will be powered by a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 diesel capable to deliver 241 hp and 429 lb-ft of torque.

Dubbed S530 CDI, the car delivers more power and torque than its European version, which comes with 235 hp and 398 ft-lb. Now don’t get too excited, as the car is going to be the only diesel-powered S-Class in the U.S. and you will not see the S420 CDI. The U.S. version of the S350 CDI will feature AdBlue urea injection technology to cleanse its exhaust system while the power will be delivered through the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system. Regarding the fuel consumption, this is expected to be around 37 miles per gallon as in the European version. And this is not all! Last week we found out from CEO of Mercedes-Benz USA Mr. Ernst Lieb that the German manufacturer will bring a diesel version of the E-Class in the U.S. (possibly the E320 CDI).
