Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3
Recently, Mercedes-Benz announced SLS AMG GT3 race car, which meets FIA GT3 regulations. The car has modified construction and optimized chassis, brakes and aerodynamics. It is also much lighter than the road car. SLS AMG GT3 will make its debut at the race track in 2011.
The new components of the bodyshell are made entirely from carbon fiber to gain extra lightweight and strength.
The body kit of GT3 race car includes a new front skirt with enlarged air intakes, a wide opening beneath the characteristic radiator grille, wing-shaped horizontal fins, two intakes below the vertical bi-xenon headlamps, four externally mounted side flics, a carbon front splitter and rear diffuser.
SLS AMG GT3 has a huge rear carbon spoiler, which generates massive downforce of the rear end of the car. The new rear skirt accommodates two openings for extracting air from the rear wheel arches. A further visual highlight is the rear carbon fiber diffuser.
The external look is completed by the black exhaust end pipes, which provided deep sound from the naturally aspirated AMG V8 engine.
The car is powered by the famous 6.2 liter V8 engine generating 570 hp and boosting the car from stand still to 100km/h in just 3.7 seconds and the car doesn’t stop until it reach 300 km/h (186mph).
The power is transmitted to the rear wheels by six-speed racing sequential gearbox. The transmission is race-tested and offers immediate shift switch. It is also mounted directly on n the rear axle and connected to the V8 engine via a torque tube, which has a very high degree of flexural and torsional stiffness.
The vehicle will be available to order in autumn 2010, with delivery scheduled prior to the start of the 2011 racing season. Homologation will be completed in March 2011.
