Citroen Survolt Concept sparks up the racetrack
The Citroën Survolt concept car is one stealthy looking machine and is sure to be a pin-up car for many 10 year old lads worldwide. To prove it’s got some go with it’s show the concept made its track debut last weekend at the Le Mans Classic racing event.
Taking the wheel on the all-electric machine was female racing driver Vanina Ickx, daughter of Belgian Formula One pilot, Jacky Ickx. “I am very proud to have participated in this unique project,” said Vanina. “On the track it felt really good. It’s a real race car, with a very promising potential for the future.”
The stylish French coupe lapped the Le Mans Circuit alongside Citroen’s other radical concept the GTbyCITROËN supercar and also a parade of more low key DS3 models.
Revealed for the first time back at the 2010 Geneva show, the Survolt is a 3.85m-long coupe sporting a tubular frame with a full carbon body and a totally flat underside. Power comes from two electric motors that push out up to 300-horsepower. That all equates to a top speed of 260km/h and a 0-100km/h sprint time of less than five seconds.
The energy for the electric motors is provided by two 140kg lithium-ion batteries that give the concept a driving range of around 200km/h and can be re-charged in just two hours with a specific power supply, or in 10 hours on a standard 220 Volt network. That might make for some long pit stops but regardless of the Survolt’s true track credentials it is one mean machine, check out more images in the gallery below.
