The VW Golf R32 IV may be an older model now but there’s still plenty around and European tuners are still exploring the outer limits of the hot hatch. The latest highly-tuned Golf R32 IV comes from German specialist MTE with its ‘Desert Storm’ camo wrapped R32 BiTurbo2.

The stock engine in the R32 is already a serious unit in the form of a 3.2-litre V6 producing 180kW and 320Nm, but thanks to a series of major modifications including bolting on a pair of Garrett turbochargers with intercoolers, fitting a custom exhaust system, recalibrating the ECU, new pistons and cylinder heads, output has now been increased to 589kW (790hp) and 1,200Nm.

Thanks to these modifications, MTE claims that the BiTurbo2 now runs the quarter mile in 10.7 seconds at 216km/h. Not too shabby at all.

To keep it all safe the car also gets a revised transmission as well as new suspension and a high-performance braking system. It rides on 18-inch wheels wrapped in semi-slick tyres.
